#6 Organic Food

whitedecision.jpgBecause of the balance of global wealth and power, there is a general assumption that white people are pretty shrewd. And for the most part, history has proven this to be true. But white people have one great weakness: organic food.

As seen by the image on the left - when faced with eating food that has been processed and loaded with nitrates, sodium and saturated fat, or organic rat poison, 10/10 they will take the rat poison.

Just like with farmers markets, white people believe that organic food is grown by farmers who wear overalls, drive tractors, and don’t use pesticide. In spite of the fact that most organic food is made by major agribusiness, and they just use it as an excuse to jack up prices, white people will always lose their mind for organic anything. Never mind the fact that if the world were to switch to 100% organic food tomorow, half the earth would die of starvation.

But white people don’t care, just so long as they aren’t eating pesticides they are pretty sure they can live forever.

It’s almost guaranteed that if some Columbian drug lord can start offering “organic” cocaine, he’ll be the richest guy ever.

This site is GAFtacular! It’s hard to tell if you are trying to be funny or if you are the chapter president of your local Black Panther branch though. You should probably clarify somewhere.

GAF, I’ve been banned. I’m ashamed!

It’s “Colombian” druglord, unless for some reason you mean a … no, forget it, you’re just wrong. COLOMBIA. It was only a major topic in the late 80s/90s/RIGHT FUCKING NOW. God forbid you learn to spell.

way to go, jackass, you found a spelling mistake. congratulations on proving to us all that you know how to spell colombia. i guess that makes you smart. it’s possible, though, that your decision to point it out and publicly mock the author makes you an insufferable, braying twit.

I know one thing white people like. . . . . correcting other people’s spelling mistakes. . .. ha ha

Oh, I LOVE IT! Asian Dude, you’re so right. Most comments on youtube and other such places don’t even relate to the actual video/post etc. It’s people complaining about the previous posters’ spelling!

Love this site and wish others would lighten up already!

or should I say: Liten up allredy!

I KNOW ONE THING ASIANS LIKE
IT’S TRYING TO MAKE WHITE PEOPLE FEEL INFERIOR.

HEY THIS IS SUPPOSED TO FUN, NOW EVERYONE BE NICE

jimmy two times on March 29, 2008 at 8:04 pm

im gonna go get the papers get the papers

I hate to be dense, Jimmy, but I just don’t get the meaning of your response, and I sure it must be truely insightful. Could you help me out just this once? What the f— do you mean?

Duh! It is a reference to Good Fellas

He must be Asian. He’s got way too much contact with the white upper-middle-class to be anything else. Conceivably he could be Indian but they’re not as bitter.

Organic food is “Organically fertilised”

“Organic fertiliser” is shit

Organic food : Grown in shit

Your grasp of the basic principles of agriculture is astounding.

Yes, this is how plants were fertilized FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS before agribusiness came on the scene.

What a crime that anyone would want to get back to that and stop trashing the only freaking place we have to live. [That would be this planet, in case you're not following along.]

It’s called the circle of life. You might want to participate in it.

I like asians and other ethnic people just fine. I love their food and culture, wtf is people’s problem.

I LIKE EVERYONE, AND FOOD

This site is f-ing brilliant. If you’re offended, you’re guilty of some of these behaviors. Lighten up. It’s HUMOR.

See? I knew I was killing two birds with one stone by drinking organic coffee. Now if only I had purchased it in a farmer’s market…

Except the guy that writes this is white. also it’s funny.

Well, you’re not quite clever…just bitter. If you would notice ( and you would since…well you’re “so clever”, this blog has no NEGATIVE stereotypes–this blog doesn’t make the author a racist–however you’re stupid comment is categorized as racism–sorry Charlie, you’re a bitter textbook racist. Wow, you’re face looks quite empty now. Good, it matches two things– Your heart and IQ. Now lighten up boy!

I’m white and I know firsthand organic food I grow is grown by small farmers, not in shit, and that starvation is caused by economic policy and not prevented by pesticides. God I am lame.

Pesticides can’t solve world hunger, you’re right. But organic food is still not sustainable. You can’t reject technological progress and still reap the benefits of it.

Only reason it’s not sustainable is because HALF of all global crops are currently fed to animals. takes 8kg of maize to produce 1kg of beef. so stop eating meat, eat the crops, save the planet (cos cow farts cause more methane gas than cars globally) and go organic. it’s easy.

How cum de black folk can be racist, but de white foke caint?
How cum de black foke want long hair like de white foke?
How cum de black foke accuse some black foke of being TOO WHITE?
Who’s the racist here?

I forgot, I also know organic rat killer is ridiculous, and the organic industry is mostly big industry, and organic nazis are idiots. Let’s go out breakdancing together, bro!

Uh… so… I’m assuming that the people above me are any combination of the following (unfortunate) paradigms.

1. White supremacists
2. Autistic idiots who can’t differentiate sarcasm and exaggeration with a ribbing tone from standard literal rhetoric.
3. White supremacists
4. White people who do/favor the things that the author says they do, and because of it, feel the need to openly rationalize to extricate themselves from ‘guilt’
5. People who don’t pay enough attention to their own, or other’s behavior, so as to remain entirely oblivious to the social patterns that ARE indubitably sweeping and beginning to mold our culture.

What you idiots above can’t seem to grasp is that he’s not talking about ALL white people. He’s also not overly insulting us.

I’m white. I hate most of the things he’s listed. Of course, I’m often decidedly politically incorrect, simply for the sake of pissing people, white or not, off, so I’ll not count myself, but presumably there’s at least one or two of you morons who don’t subscribe to every bit of the ‘me too’ mentality of America.

pretending to have political opinions just to piss people off is extremely white. I love this blog by the way. I love organic food too, I’m serious. There’s nothing wrong with it.

Lol it is spelled ColOmbian not ColUmbian fool.

People who “lol” are not allowed to spell-check anyone.

It’s in the internet rules, seriously. Ask Al Gore if you don’t believe me.

OH, man. My kid is eating a Swanson’s turkey dinner right now. They were on sale. She thinks they’re a huge treat (we’re white, liberal, and poor). I would be going straight to white hell if it existed.

I couldnt find this on the list so I wrote it myself.
Im white but this is so true. as demonstrated by the above posts.

SPELLING AND GRAMMATICAL CORRECTNESS

A curious fact about white people is that to them, spelling and grammatical correctness can often outweigh subject matter in terms of importance to a white person.
They have an instant allergic reaction when they notice a type-o or punctuation error. As if they have been tranquilized by, the error, the white person
begins to lose focus on whatever it is they are reading and their brains hone in on the type-o.
In extreme cases they will completely dismiss a perfectly good article/sign or piece of writing if there is even the slightest error.
It disgusts them often to the point that they feel they must inform the author of their terrible error and punish and ridicule them for their incompetence.
It makes the white people very sad to know that there are people out there who just “overlook” the fact that a semi colon is not be used in place of a bullet point, or that the correct australasian spelling of the word “center” is actually “centre”.
It is very important when writing to a white person that one takes a lot of care to check and re-check all spelling and punctuation before sending it to them.
Even the slightest little error can be very dangerous when dealing with white people.
Not only is it harmful to their delicate sensitivities but you will instantly be labelled as uneducated and anything you have ever said or will say in the future will be disregarded as meaningless and irrelevant.

It may be a genetic thing but some scientists believe spelling bee competitions are the first way in which white people learn to hate bad spelling and grammar.

I’m an editor for a living and that is hysterical.
Wow.

spelling “typo” as “type-o” seems like a fairly egregious error.

Also annoying? When people place punctuation marks outside quotation marks (e.g., “centre”.) and misspell words like typo when trying to write an article about grammar.

i agreed with u , sometimes white people did take the grammar and spelling mistakes too serious , i’ve been criticised for this matter on youtube , come on they are too over reaction toward these mistakes ,plus my mother language is mandarin and cantonese , im pretty sure that you people have no right to criticise or compare compare me with those of you that communicate using english since the day you were born, it’s unfair, try reverse the situation , then you will understand the feeling that i’ve been through , and thank u ic for posting that comment .

I love the comments by people that think that these are behaviours to be ashamed of; its not the activities themselves, but the sanctimonious attitude that is occasionally objectionable.

Eating organic food, working at a nonprofit, buying food at a farmers market, riding a bike instead of a hummer; my asian, black and latino friends engage in these activities at the same rate as my white friends. They’re not “white” activities, they’re activities of people who are concerned about something other than their own comfort.

Buying a prius, throwing out your 5 year old fridge for an energy star efficient one, anything to do with Indie Rock and gifted Children on the other hand are pretty exclusively white and annoying.

I prefer organic, if it’s actually organic (which starting this year, will be enforced in Canada)…but damn it is expensive. So what I want to eat and what I usually afford, has a gap.

…and the visual for this post is the WIN!

shaylene clarke on February 21, 2008 at 1:28 pm

you’re trying to bait us by spelling it “type-o”, but i’m not going to fall for it.

TheForestANDtheTrees on February 22, 2008 at 7:41 am

Ic, the phrase is “home in.” “Hone” means to sharpen; “home” (the verb) means to direct attention or energy toward something.

I thought you’d like to know!!! :D

xoxoxo

I love when people try to argue and only prove the point more. It’s the best!

Well to be fair, foods in the States are probably ten times more fortified than in Latin American countries which explains weight gain of those immigrants moving to the States…

RACIST!!!!

Okay, “ic”’s comment regarding spelling and grammatical correctness is so freaking hilarious. I struggle to focus on what’s being said instead of the spelling mistakes when I’m reading stuff. I’m not that old but the “text message” language makes me want to strangle people. I always figured it was just me being anal but I now I can blame it on my race. Woohoo!

askmewhyiwearamask on February 26, 2008 at 7:58 am

ew. no.

Someone who needs to 1. get a life and 2. get a sense of humor?
My LORD, Anonymous! Holy Shit, I’ve never seen anything like this! GET OVER YOURSELF. It’s a damn wordpress blog. If you don’t like it, don’t read it!
Also, Asian - rock on w/your spelling correction note. I also picked out the mistake(s), but, then again, I also do everything else mentioned on this blog!

Homes need to chill the f@ck out. It’s a joke. Develop an ability to laugh at yourself and move on before your head explodes.

This is some of the most politically incorrect funniest ireverent frighteningly on target stuff this white boy has ever read!!

Asian Dude
I know one thing white people like. . . . . correcting other people’s spelling mistakes. . .. ha ha

AWESOME!

This brings up a good point. The White Drug of choice is Cocaine with out a doubt.

Tying in with a fair number of your posts I will have to correct you and say that it’s Colombia, not Columbia….unless, of course, you were talking about the University instead of the Country.

I know. I’m white.

Why are organic cigarettes not taking over?

Already out there. American spirits

dervandernderyid on March 1, 2008 at 3:13 pm

Mary Jane,

Organic cigarettes (both light and filter) are sold under the Natural American Spirit brand, owned by RJ Reynolds since 2002. Extremely popular in places where white people read the Sunday New York Times by the water and vote for Barack Obama.

It’s healthy for you! It’s organic!

haha, you beat me to it and your reply was so much whiter than mine

Ha! It’s true, I’m white and I like organic. But also, HA! I don’t give a flying f*** about the pesiticides or the small farmers. I’m doing it because I believe in sustainability. I guess that makes me EVEN WHITER.

In addition to ic’s comments about punctuation and grammar, I felt it would be useful to mention that the apostrophe is a particular bugbear for some of us white people - its misuse is an occasional source of dismissive behaviour towards the writer, something I have to confess I indulged in after seeing ‘its’ instead of ‘it’s’ and vice-versa on this website. But anyway, I have important and creative work to do on my Apple, as I sip my organic, fair-trade coffee while driving my Prius with the Ipod stuck on ‘Indie Rock’. I would eat an over-priced sandwich but then I wouldn’t be able to drive… Awesome blog, by the way!

ps us non-yanks like to belittle American English speakers for getting rid of what we feel are important letters here and there - the perspicacious among you will have noticed my spelling of the word ‘behaviour’…

{Twitch!}

My white brain is having conniptions seeing your single quotes being used in place of proper double quotes and your horrid misuse of an ellipsis. Oh yes, and US English drops lots of useless letters from the UK versions of words because they’re exactly that; useless. And you didn’t capitalize or punctuate the “P.S.” properly.

{Wink.}

I love this blog. I’m asian, but I like all the things listed on this blog. I’m pretty much a twinky. Yellow on the outside, white on the inside.

And in response to anonymous, I actually didn’t know heroine was a Chinese thing. I thought our thing was studying? and owning buffets called “Super Lucky Express”.

oh man, i should probably should have fixed all my spelling and grammar errors before posting.

organic lol what a scam

Hey, you forgot the mayonaise! WP just l-o-v-e that shit!

of course white people would get sensitive over this stuff..that’s just the white way of doing things.

blackguyw/assortedfriends on March 4, 2008 at 9:20 pm

everybody eats mayonnaise, 2 n’s pk, another typo, lol. These posts are great.

[...] Look at how pertinent it is to our blog: gentrification, Obama, and it’s a stretch but oranges. [...]

most organic food is grown on industrial farms who still feed their cows corn (NOT THEIR NATURAL DIET) but this happens to be organically grown corn that is still genetically modified! Some organic food does have more nutrients in it but when you factor in the amount of transport and processing (yes organic food is still processed - in fact the milk and other dairy products have to be processed more to be safe) it is still as dirty as processed non-organic food!

offended white person on March 5, 2008 at 12:20 pm

has history shown white people to be “shrewd” or has it shown that they were the beneficiaries of a series of accidents related to resources, collective modes of thought, and military technological innovation?

many of these posts are funny but they also, in some cases, exalt the very culture they are mocking.

First off, i am white.
Second, you guys are the lamest bean counters I have seen. ColOmbia vs ColUmbia? Who’s racist or multicultural? Believe me, they are the same thing. The organic craze is stupid, I do agree. The reason we are fat is because we are lazy as hell. The reason this website is so funny is because you prove his point.

As an Egyptian-American who looks very “white”, in addition to being college-educated, I am constantly immersed in white culture….And man what you say is so true! I always crack up so hard reading these blog entries, it’s unbelievable.
And the people who get offended by the entries just prove your point even more.
Ahh, white people. Some peculiar and fascinating…some just annoying. But great to analyze nevertheless :)

A "real" ColUmbian? on March 9, 2008 at 10:57 am

I am Colombian…and NOT white. And I’d appreciate it if you spelled it right, butthole.

I’d be interested in knowing what race this person is. Because posts like this seem to insist that the author knows better than the reader…doesn’t that fit in line with the authors idea of white people liking being intellectually superior to others? The author sounds like the worst white dude EVER! He’s so ashamed of his whiteness that he makes fun of other whites and, furthermore, other whites more traditional ways of venting their hatred for themselves (learning other languages, cultures, etc). Haha. You’re the worst one here!

And regarding organic foods and switching over
