lol…Nice
It is such an honor to see that my people are finally being portrayed in such a positive way in the media.
I thank Jesus every single day for giving me the strength to continue to fight the good fight, despite all of the obstacles I face daily as a white girl from Idaho.
His tacos with extra, extra jalepenos are sometimes the only things that keeps me going!!
Hooyah!!
Great job!
cool

I read this yesterday and thought it would be perfect for this site! Bravo!
I’m giving up my job to be a farmer!
Visit New Paltz, NY if you want to see this kind of stuff in action!

Wow… Legitimization… Congrats on finally having evidence to back up your hilarious topics!

You missed the critical reference–”…feeling good about yourself.”
AKA What to do when you trust fund comes in…….
Congrats on the exposure! You’re showing up in a lot of the “top blog listings” nowadays, and I keep getting articles emailed to me from your site. That’s great news for you, keep up the good work!!

“Wearing Carhartt and leather, motherf_ck the weather, on Valentine’s Day, doing stickups together” - Gangta Bitch by Apache
Not sure of Apache is on the approved rappers list for white people. He’s retro now so maybe he has the kitcsch factor working in his favor?
waited 4 days and this is all i get?
how about white people and THE WEST WING?
All of those eight things posted are white people things for closeted homosexuals supplied by white closeted homosexuals.
Just look at that girl’s disgusting hairdo in that picture: there can be little doubt she is trying to look like a boy.
hilarious!!
Best one yet. Now I can’t stop looking at “Awesome Farm’s” website.
LOLOL damn this is a good post
How ironic. I thought immediately of your blog when I saw that on the front page of The New York Times’ online version.
lol i’m having a hard time understanding this post
http://www.hustlershome.com
I particularly enjoyed how the writer made the distinction that now their “Carharts” lacked irony.
A couple people have already referred to them, but Carhartts are definitely stuff white people like. They act similarly to the Outdoor Performance Gear, letting other white people know how rugged you are. Carhartt’s also say to other white people - “Hey. I work hard. I like drinking coffee and eating scones, but I might have to go frame a house or ride a tractor in a minute.” The degree of wear shows how much a particular white person truly needs the durability of Carhartt pants.
White people like to show off diversity in their Carhartt apparel. Pants used to be good enough. No longer. Sweatshirts, stocking caps and overalls are even becoming cliche. Soon, white people will have to wear the full-body, insulated coveralls to really prove how hard their lives are.
There’s a crucial difference between the mountain gear and Carhartts, though. While the performance gear is expensive and excludes poor people and working class people (who white people care about), Carhartts are more inclusive, affordable and worn by actual farmers and actual construction workers! Thus, rich white people can blend in with less rich white people and escape the guilt of higher education. This way, through the wonders of brand loyalty, white people can say “Farmer Joe. I understand what it feels like to work a fourteen hour day shoveling poop. I feel your pain. Just check out the pants.”
And irony! It was the first line of the article!
Book deal next?

This times article should have been called: “the life of a trust fund baby”
You missed the critical reference to studying abroad, one of these hipsters spend a two years in Italy.
I am anxious to see something about white people adn best seller books in airports.

Other stuff white people like: shamelessly plugging their own blogs.
Like this: ipostupost.com.
White people will love this blog.
did you get this from my blog?
so true though.
hah… I second the west wing. In fact I think an aaron sorkin post as a whole has strong comedic possibilities.
Admittedly I thought this was going to be a NY Times article about “Stuff White People Like.” But it was really about stuff white people like.
Ah, Clander. I see what you did there.
Congrats guys! Love this blog.
Suggestion for a new post: sarcasm. No other ethnicity or country (except England) are hip to this phenomenon.
Speaking for my white self via my white macbook, I can also assure you that white people like charities involving birds of prey and cute cute babies!

Anyone can get an article in the New York Times. You haven’t arrived until you become a crossword entry.
“STUFFWHITEPEOPLELIKE” is 20 letters, so it would have to be a Sunday one, too. Otherwise, the grid is too “shortz”.
Great Site!
Maybe should start some sort of white drinking game while reading this story. Every time a favorite white person activity is mentioned we drink a shot of espresso. That would be non-starbucks espresso.
White people have been doing this for decades — ever read the Whole Earth Catalog? The NYT article made me laugh, but I’d rather see white people spending their trust funds on boutique organic farms and non-ironic Carhartts than wasting their parents’ money on cocaine and designer denim. When the apocalypse comes (another thing white people like: fantasizing about the apocalypse), at least they’ll be able to grow their own food.
while i laugh hysterically at the posts on this website, it just continues the “rock and hard spot” of being a caring white person. I can’t change my skin color-neither can black people.
I’ve realized that if I try to learn and care about others’ issues, I fall into the “you try but you DON’T even KNOW” category, and if I don’t try, I”m just an ignorant white person- both of which are deemed stupid by this blog. (keep trying or give up?)
My rant this week goes out to the less-used phrase of “PEOPLE” after any category… When did it become ok in language or in print to refer to “gays” or “blacks”? I only speak in terms of “black people” or “gay PEOPLE” or “asian PEOPLE” in the hope that the common denominator is perceived, humanity not categories.
This is a good one! I immediately thought of this blog when I saw this in the Times.
Make sure you guys do your research b4 u go being “farmers.” It’s a lot harder than you think.

#89 - Richard Simmons
Oh my God. It’s the Holy Grail.
Shit…I forgot to put on jazz while I was reading this…and it was on a Sunday.
When I saw this article on the NYTimes site, I thought it was an Onion parody, what with the strange hat that guy’s wearing and it supposedly being about agriculture yet located in the Style section. I guess all of those hipster librarians they profiled last Summer (which is another part of their “Stuff White People Like” series) got tired of ordering DDC themed cocktails and chucked it all for opening up a boutique organic farm.
Otherwise, how is this new and significant? Pretty much any organic farm in California is run by old hippies who got into food issues and agriculture back during the 60s. Does the name Alice Waters ring a bell? Also a large % of any farm that’s selling at Farmer’s Market out here is Southeast Asian/Hmong immigrants. But I guess an article about trying to survive in a new culture while holding on to your roots is probably not as stylish as talking about how to apply that liberal arts degree to food issues.
Shit…I forgot to put on jazz while I was reading this…and it was on a Sunday.
39, that’s true–but do we really want these particularly people to survive the apocalypse?
39, that’s true–but do we really want these particularly people to survive the apocalypse?
Great list.
I like the Arts Degrees -> and then really understand art. Organic Food scores high too
Stay healthy!
Thanks for ruining another good keyboard. I was just reading that same article minutes ago, which made me check this site, which brings to full circle, the definition of irony.
Allow me to amend comment #37. You can indeed fit the name of this blog into a daily NYT puzzle, if you split it up:
STUFFWHITE
PEOPLELIKE
How symmetrical. And “CHRISTIANLANDER” would fit across the 15-square daily grid in either direction.
You forgot “Brooklyn Lager,” an excellent Microbrew.
One thing I did not see on the list that is quintessentially white - pumpkins. White people love pumpkins! Living in the Northeast it’s too bad we only have them in the fall. I was proud to have my pumpkin displayed from October-January. Wish I could have them displayed year-round as they are very white
So let me get the new white hierarchy correct…
Organic Farmer > Bike Mechanic ?
Okay I have a question for this blogger.
Does he actually believe that things like hating corporations, growing organic food, and having a much less materialistic society is a bad thing?
Or is he hating on the hypocritical pretentious assholes who only talk/wear those values on their sleeves but don’t do a damn thing about it type of people.
If it’s the former then he is just a fool.
OMFG, this article is embarrassing. In those articles they mentioned about fifteen Universities. Of course, a professor from UC Santa Cruz had to comment. I go there, statistically it is the whitest UC.
#54
Pumpkins remain one of the few truly seasonal crops. Nobody has them year round. This is probably contributes to why white people like them so much.
OMG–you read my mind! When reading this, I got that sinking feeling of not being hip enough. Then I realized it was really the feeling I wasn’t white enough for folks.
Thanks stuffwhitepeoplelike, for making me realize that once again being biracial means never having to apologize for not acting white or Asian enough for this world.
It’s time we stop dicking around and get the real meat of this issue. White people fucking love food ethics. It allows us buy expensive food, compete, and pretend we are doing good just be eating.
#1 needn’t worry, people who wear Carhartt in a non-ironic fashion are the “wrong kind of white people.” I also think #44 needn’t worry - Richard Simmons has also fallen to “wrong kind” standing, even if we concede there might have been an argument for “right kind” 20 years ago.
Guy + Girl living together and not having sex would probably also qualify under the other recent entry, “Gays.” Might be a stretch. At least emo if not. It’s gonna be cute when they get bored of Scattergories and take their Prius out to the local bar only to get smacked around when when they’re overheard complaining that there’s no Brooklyn Lager on tap. Anyway, I hope VH1 does a “Where are they now?” in 18 months, after the novelty wears off and they get a dose of oh-shit-I-actually-have-to-do-work.
Like others here, I read the NYTimes article first and thought it had to be a joke, because it so dripped with excessive white detail.
I believe the white profession food chain goes something like this. I’m going to take a stab at this…Feel free to add items or correct it.
Organic Farmer
Ultra-Progressive elected grass-roots local politician
Works an international humanitarian non-profit
Bike Mechanic
Works at any other type of non-profit
Manager for a band that is considered ‘cool’ this week
Works for ‘hip’ company and ‘designs’ stuff
Pot grower
Any other type of job
The NY Times basically wrote this article with your blog in mind.
What is UP with that dude’s hat? Even a white person should know better than to mix it with a carhart, though somehow it makes more sense on him than her. That picture is screaming for a caption such as the ones you might find on Stuff on My Cat. But I am much better at laughing at captions than writing my own.
I actually cannot read that article, it’s too cringey. It’s like goatse with words.
You would never, EVER catch a non-white saying anything was “like goatse”.
Other high-status Whiterpeople professions:
- Visiting literature professor
- Civil rights lawyer
- Peace Corps volunteer
- Photographer
Yes! I love how the article mentions, for no reason, that the one guy, ’spent two years living it Italy after graduation.’ As if that somehow qualifies him to work on a farm.
No mention yet of white people liking porn? It’s this countries number one past time!
http://pornstarbabylon.wordpress.com/
Oh god! I just noticed that was number 69. HAHAHAHA!
I know it’s already been mentioned, but there’s 11 references. The missing one is Microbrewed beer.
